Thursday’s national forecast – Cold front moves northwards

A cold front pushes northwards over the South Island today meanwhile there is a low to the north which may bring rain to northeastern parts of the North Island from this afternoon.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Any morning mist or fog clears then expect high cloud. Eastern Northland through to East Cape may start to see rain from this afternoon, possibly heavy. Rain or showers becoming a little more widespread about the upper North Island this evening. Light winds then afternoon sea breezes, southeasterlies overnight.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy with a few showers, northwesterlies change southeast overnight.
Highs: 15-20

Eastern North Island

Sun and some high cloud, evening rain moves into Wairarapa then pushes northwards overnight with southerly winds.
Highs: 21-23

Wellington

Partly cloudy, a few spits, mainly in the north. Evening rain moves in as gusty northwesterlies change to the south.
Highs: 19-20

Marlborough & Nelson

Partly cloudy, evening showers for Marlborough. Northwesterlies change southerly late afternoon or evening.
Highs: 20-23

Canterbury

Mostly cloudy with a few showers, some rain in the evening then easing overnight. Southerly winds, perhaps tending easterly in the afternoon.
Highs: 14-18

West Coast

Mostly cloudy with a few showers, starting to clear from afternoon, becoming dry in the evening with cloud breaking away as southwesterlies tend more to the south.
Highs: 13-18

Southland & Otago
Showers, clearing later in the evening as westerlies (fresh about the coast) die away. Otago may have a dry morning then a few showers from afternoon, clearing evening.
