A westerly airflow lies over New Zealand today with a front moving onto the lower South Island this evening.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Sunny spells and some high cloud with west to southwesterly winds. The Bay Of Plenty is mostly sunny with southwesterlies tending light northerly for a time in the afternoon.
Highs: 18-20

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny spells with west to northwesterly winds, cloud thickens overnight.
Highs: 16-18

Eastern North Island
Sunny with afternoon east to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 18-20

Wellington
Sunny spells with freshening north to northwesterly winds.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny with northwesterlies picking up in the afternoon for Marlborough. Nelson is mainly sunny also with morning southwesterlies then afternoon northerlies.
Highs: 19-22

Canterbury
A sunny day with northwesterly winds, gusty about inland areas in the afternoon. Overnight showers with a southwest change.
Highs: 20-22

West Coast
Mostly cloudy with showers for South Westland, spreading northwards for a time in the evening as northwesterlies change southwest.
Highs: 14-16

Southland & Otago
Mostly cloudy about Southland with a few showers, some rain late afternoon / evening. Otago sees sunny areas and some high cloud then evening showers. Strong west to northwesterly winds (gale at times about coastal Southland) change southwest in the evening.
Highs: 14-20
