A weak cold front pushes over the lower South Island today bringing a boost in west to north west winds in many regions, as far north as the lower North Island and Wellington.
Wet weather is mostly confined to Southland, Fiordland and south Westland later in the day or evening. Check your hourly forecast for more detail. Heaviest rain will be in Fiordland.
A few isolated showers may linger around the North Island in coastal western areas but otherwise dry.
Winds ease on Friday in most places that were windy Thursday – but westerlies may still be a bit gusty in the deep south and Coastal Otago, also Stewart Island, on Friday.
