Sunday’s national forecast – Windy in the North Island, mild in the South

A spring-like westerly wind will blow across the North Island today with WNW winds turning more WSW as the day wears on.

Winds may gust to gale force in some exposed areas for a time, including in Auckland where another burst of showers are likely.

Rain will spread into other parts of the North Island from the west.

Over the South Island winds won’t be too strong today. However a low is forming in the Tasman Sea today and will quickly move in tonight and Monday bringing the chance of severe weather into both islands.

We’ll have more details today about Monday’s rough weather.
