Showers pepper Auckland; heavier showers in the South Island

Showers peppered Auckland yesterday and became a little heavier over the night as a sou’west flow continued from the Tasman Sea.

The showers were just enough to sink in to the ground however won’t be enough to ease drought conditions around the city.

WeatherWatch.co.nz believes it will be enough for some suburbs to see a slight touch of green to their lawns over the next day or so.

Light showers also affected western parts of Waikato and Northland.

However the next 10 days look mostly dry over the upper North Island as an extensive high pressure system moves in from the Tasman Sea.

Meanwhile heavier showers moved over the South Island’s southern and eastern coastlines overnight with a cool change behind them.  Daytime highs in southern and eastern centres will today only reach the low to mid teens.
