Scientists hope to track sharks

A team studying Great White Sharks off Stewart Island is expecting to bump into some old friends or acquaintances.

The team from NIWA and Auckland University are starting a shark tagging programme today.

DOC Shark expert Clinton Duffy says they have heard that at least one old mate “Grim” is back in southern waters after spending time around Fiji.

He says they are also expecting to catch up with two big female White Pointers they have seen since 2008. One of the two females was tracked to the Coral Sea last year.
