Saturday’s national forecast – More instability

Weak low pressure covers the country today, generally the weather is settled however cool air aloft brings the risk of afternoon showers and thunderstorms to some areas especially inland.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mix of sun and cloud, a few afternoon isolated showers (mainly Auckland southwards), one or two could be heavy with a low risk of thunder, easing and clearing in the evening. Light winds tend west to northwest.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
A mix of sun and cloud, a few afternoon isolated showers, one or two could be heavy with a low risk of thunder, easing and clearing in the evening. Light winds tend west to northwest.
Highs: 19-23


Eastern North Island
A mix of sun and cloud, isolated showers possible in the afternoon especially south of Napier, perhaps one or two heavy falls with thunder. Light winds tend east to northeast after midday.
Highs: 24-25


Wellington
Partly cloudy, chance of a morning shower in the north, perhaps one or two inland about hills and ranges in the afternoon, clearing later on. Light winds.
Highs: 21-25


Marlborough & Nelson
Partly cloudy, afternoon isolated showers, possible heavy with thunder then clearing later on. Light winds then afternoon sea breezes.
Highs: 22-23


Canterbury
Some morning sun, isolated showers develop in the afternoon, one or two could become heavy with a low risk of thunder then easing later in the day. Light winds tend to the east in the afternoon.
Highs: 19-21


West Coast
Partly cloudy, Fiordland may have one or two light showers, clearing in the evening. Buller has the risk of a few afternoon showers. Light winds tend west to southwest.
Highs: 19-24


Southland & Otago
Cloudy areas with the odd shower, clearing evening. Light winds.
Highs: 17-23
