Monday’s national forecast – Between lows

A very weak ridge of high pressure lies over the country today meanwhile a low sits way out to our east in the Pacific and another low sits in the Tasman Sea, dropping to the southeast overnight.

North Island

Partly cloudy skies in the west with southwesterly winds, tending westerly this afternoon. Mostly sunny for Bay Of Plenty and eastern regions with high cloud this evening, light winds tend onshore this afternoon however winds remain from the WSW all day for Bay Of Plenty. A light shower or two may arrive in the west this evening.

South Island

Partly cloudy skies in the west and south, sun and developing high cloud in the east. A few isolated showers develop this afternoon for Central Otago through to inland South Canterbury, easing this evening. Rain moves into Fiordland and then eventually Southland during the course of this afternoon, coastal Otago this evening. This evening a few light showers spread north along the West Coast. Westerly quarter winds in the west, east to northeasterly winds freshen up in the east this afternoon.
