Monday’s national forecast

A large area of low pressure moves over New Zealand on Monday bringing mainly unsettled weather.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Rain spreads southwards this morning moving into most areas by midday, then easing for a time, showers pick up again mid to late afternoon with a chance of heavy falls and thunderstorms. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 17-19

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Rain moves into Taranaki this morning then easing, showers elsewhere from afternoon with heavy falls possible inland then easing overnight. Light winds.
Highs: 15-21

Eastern North Island
Some sun, showers develop in the afternoon possibly heavy with thunderstorms then clearing later in the evening. Showers may remain about the Wairarapa however. Light winds.
Highs: 18-20

Wellington
Sunny spells, northerly winds tend southerly in the afternoon. There may be a shower or two from afternoon especially up the Hutt Valley / inland. Cloud thickens this evening with showers more widespread later on or overnight.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson
Cloudy areas, a few isolated showers mainly inland. Light winds.
Highs: 18-19

Canterbury
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, more so about inland areas where there could be a few heavy falls in the afternoon. Dry areas more likely nearer the coast, overnight widespread rain moves in as southwesterlies freshen.
Highs: 12-14

West Coast
Cloudy areas  for North Westland with a few showers, especially more towards / about Buller. South Westland sees some sun and mainly dry weather however expect showers just inland about the ranges. Winds from the southwest.
Highs: 15-17

Southland & Otago
A dry morning with some sun, could be a few showers about northern Otago however then showers / rain becoming widespread from afternoon as southwesterly winds develop.
Highs: 12-16
