A weakening front lies just over the northeast of the North Island today while a northerly airflow strengthens over the South Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Mostly cloudy with the odd shower about, long dry spells also especially about the Waikato. South to Southeasterly winds.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly sunny weather with southeast breezes, perhaps tending westerly for a time in the afternoon.
Highs: 17-19
 
Eastern North Island
Morning cloud breaks to a mostly sunny afternoon about the Wairarapa, southeast winds tend northeast after midday. Hawkes Bay sees the odd light shower, drying out in the afternoon with cloud breaking in the evening, southeast winds tend northeast mid to late afternoon. Early rain about Gisborne eases to showers which clear by evening, southeast winds tend northeast at night.

Sunny with light winds tending northerly in the afternoon, some late cloud.

Marlborough & Nelson
Mainly sunny weather with north to northwesterly winds picking up from afternoon.
Highs: 15-20
 
Canterbury
Mostly sunny with some high cloud from afternoon, north to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 18-20
 
West Coast
Sunny spells and increasing cloud from afternoon, a few light showers about Fiordland from late afternoon then rain moves into South Westland overnight with heavy falls. North to northeasterly winds gradually increase.

Southland & Otago
Chance of some early sun then expect thickening high cloud, breezy northerly winds. A few spots of rain possible this evening.
