Heavy rain & gusty winds for parts of NZ this long weekend

The long weekend starts off mostly settled and dry, then subtropical north to north-west winds kick in with heavy West Coast rain, spilling over into the upper South Island, and the top half of the North Island going into King’s Birthday Monday and Tuesday of next week.

Before the long weekend high pressure will be smack bang over central NZ and that means some South Island frosts and foggy areas are expected in the usual places in both main islands. But the wind this weekend should limit fog and remove the chance of frosts.

Next week sees some low pressure around, it’s a bit of a messy set-up so we’ll update you again on Friday to make more sense of how next week is panning out.
