Friday’s national forecast – Fronts move north

A series of cold fronts push northwards over the country today bringing wet weather, clearing for the West Coast from the south then conversely rain moves up the east coast with a southwest change.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Thickening cloud, a few showers south of Auckland become a little more widespread into the afternoon however parts of Northland may stay dry. Overnight as a front moves over rain becomes widespread. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 21 – 23

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Rain or showers, blustery northerlies change west to southwest at night.
Highs: 17 – 21

Eastern North Island

High cloud, spits of rain for Wairarapa, becoming more persistent in the evening then pushing north overnight as northerlies change southerly.
Highs: 20 – 25

Wellington

Spits turn to rain in the morning, easing later in the evening as strong northerlies change southerly.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson

Rain, clearing in the afternoon with some sun breaking through. Showers later in the evening for Marlborough as northwesterlies change southerly.
Highs: 20 – 23

Canterbury

Dry at first with high cloud, a southwest change pushes through south of Banks Peninsula in the morning then further north after midday bringing thickening cloud then rain. Rain starts to clear overnight from the south.
Highs: 16 – 22

West Coast

Rain with a few heavy falls, clearing Fiordland in the morning then further north later in the day. Northerlies change southwest as a front sweeps north.
Highs: 15 – 18

Southland & Otago
Rain eases to showers in the morning for Southland, showers clear evening. Otago sees rain develop first thing in the morning, clearing at night. South to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 12 – 15
