Friday’s national forecast – Front passes over from the west

A series of fronts amalgamate into one front then this pushes over from the west during today, northeasterly winds ahead of the front then changing more to the north in behind.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Patchy rain or showers, easing first thing about Northland with sunny spells breaking through as gusty east to northeast winds tend to the north. Conditions ease about Auckland in the afternoon then elsewhere by evening. Mainly dry for all later in the day.
Highs: 21-24

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Showers turning to rain in the afternoon, clearing away in the evening. Northeasterlies tend a little more to the north in the afternoon. Overnight rain moves back into Taranaki.
Highs: 19-24

Eastern North Island

Cloudy with scattered spits of rain developing in the morning, clearing in the evening with breezy northeasterlies easing.
Highs: 22-23

Wellington

Cloudy with rain developing in the morning, clearing in the evening. Northeasterlies tend to the north in the afternoon.
Highs: 19-20

Marlborough & Nelson

Rain develops in the morning, clearing in the evening with northeasterlies tending northwest. Overnight rain feeds back in from the northwest.
Highs: 19-21

Canterbury

Mostly cloudy, a few spits of rain for a time around midday then clearing and sun breaking through. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 21-23

West Coast

Rain with a few heavy falls, mainly south of Greymouth. From late evening heavy rain feeds into Buller. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 18-19

Southland & Otago
Partly cloudy for all, Southland and Central Otago have the risk of a spit or shower from afternoon. Northerly winds for inland areas, tending northeast for coastal Otago, afternoon southeasterlies for Southland.
Highs: 20-24
