Friday’s national forecast – Easterly airflow drags in rain

An easterly quarter airflow combined with various fronts drags in rain to eastern and northeastern parts of the country today, drier and sunnier for the West Coast of the South Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
North of Auckland expect a mix of sun and cloud, showers at times especially in the east with a chance of thunder. Cloudier south of Auckland with rain, heavy falls for Coromandel, western Bay Of Plenty and perhaps Waikato then easing from afternoon. Many areas may dry out in the evening except the odd shower remaining about the eastern coastline. East to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 16 – 18

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy, some rain especially in the morning then again overnight. Easterly winds.
Highs: 13 – 18

Eastern North Island

Rain, heavier later in the day with fresh easterly winds becoming strong in the evening.
Highs: 15 – 17

Wellington

Cloudy with the odd spit or shower, overnight rain. East to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 15 – 16

Marlborough & Nelson

Cloudy with drizzle or some rain, Nelson is drier but there still could be a few showers especially morning and again later on. Southeasterly winds.
Highs: 14 – 17

Canterbury

Cloudy with drizzle, perhaps some rain. The Mackenzie Country is dry, fog morning and night with sunny areas by day. Light east to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 7 – 14

West Coast

Mainly sunny, there may be a touch of high cloud. Some mid level cloud for Buller. Light southeasterlies.
Highs: 14 – 18

Southland & Otago
Mostly cloudy, some drizzle possible especially for coastal Otago. Central Otago is sunnier, drier and colder with fog morning and night. Light winds.
Highs: 6 – 12
