Nelson is bracing itself for possible storm-like conditions similar to that of July 2008 when trees fell and the water supply line was disrupted.

Nelson City Council Senior Executive Technical Services Alec Louverdis says there has been a heavy rain warning from Met Service which is going to be accompanied by very very high winds.

He says at this time of the year, leaf wall can block stormwater grills so they ask residents to ensure drains are clear.

Alec Louverdis says reports are the winds are going to be quite high, akin to what Nelson had in the storm of July 2008.
