A low and a front – The Big Picture on Tuesday

On Tuesday we see a low pressure system move over the South Island during the day, and then a front hooking around this low moves over the North Island during the day – also from west to east.

Over the South Island, winds start out light for most – although the airflow gradually swings around to the south or southwest during the afternoon, as the low mentioned above moves out to the east of the South Island.

For the west and south of the South Island, it’s looking cloudy – with the odd spell of rain here and there through the day.
In the east and north of the island, showers and rain move in from afternoon and evening – possibly heavy and thundery in parts of Marlborough and Nelson towards evening.

In the North Island, the lower half of the island is looking wet to start, with early rain clearing by afternoon, while the East Coast looks wet for longer, and Northland stays mostly dry.
