Wednesday’s national forecast – Rain West Coast

A front pushes northwards over the South Island today bringing rain in the west and a few spots out east. The North Island has a ridge of high pressure, still the chance of a shower in the west, mostly sunny out east.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny with southwest breezes, winds a little more westerly for Bay Of Plenty.
Highs: 22-24

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy areas, a few light showers Palmerston North southwards, spreading elsewhere late afternoon. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 18-22

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny, some high cloud. Northwesterly winds however tending east to northeast in the afternoon for Hawkes Bay and Gisborne.
Highs: 23-24

Wellington

Partly cloudy with northerly winds, spots of rain possible from afternoon in the north (i.e. upper Hutt).
Highs: 21-22

Marlborough & Nelson

High cloud, some sun. Northwesterlies for Marlborough, southwest winds for Nelson may tend to the north in the afternoon.
Highs: 24-27

Canterbury

High cloud, some scattered rain early afternoon then clearing with northerlies tending northwest. Some sun eventually breaks through.
Highs: 23-25

West Coast

Heavy rain and possible thunder for South Westland moves into North Westland during the morning, conditions ease back to showers in behind this band of rain as it moves north. In the evening heavy rain moves back in south of Greymouth. Northeasterly winds freshen.
Highs: 20-22

Southland & Otago
Morning rain clears, breaking to afternoon sun, high cloud thickens later in the day. Overnight rain moves into Central Otago especially close to the Main Divide. Northerly winds, perhaps tending northeast for coastal Otago.
Highs: 24-27
