Wednesday’s national forecast – Low pressure brings a few showers

Some weak low pressure brings a few showers for the eastern South Island today, also Wairarapa. Out west it’s drier but the western North Island sees some instability this afternoon.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mix of sun and cloud, a few isolated showers develop in the afternoon, clearing later in the evening. Light winds tend north to northeast.
Highs: 23-26

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Partly cloudy, isolated showers develop about inland areas in the afternoon, pushing towards the coast in the evening. Southeasterly winds.
Highs: 19-25

Eastern North Island

Cloud pushes into Wairarapa bringing a few showers, perhaps some early heavy rain about the coast. Sun further north then cloud pushes northwards before midday, the odd shower for Hawkes Bay and Gisborne from afternoon. South to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-22

Wellington

Morning showers clear then cloud breaks to sunny spells, breezy southeasterly winds, strong through Cook Strait.
Highs: 16-19

Marlborough & Nelson

Morning cloud breaks to sunny spells for Marlborough, mostly sunny weather for Nelson. A few afternoon showers for Tasman. Southeasterly winds, strong about the outer Sounds and Farewell Spit.
Highs: 17-21

Canterbury

Mostly cloudy, the odd shower or drizzle patch. East to northeasterly winds.
High: 15-18

West Coast

A mix of sun and cloud, Buller has a few isolated afternoon showers, one or two may be heavy. Light winds.
Highs: 20-24


Southland & Otago
Partly cloudy for Southland and Central Otago, coastal Otago has cloudier skies with the odd shower or drizzle patch, drying out in the evening. East to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 14-21
