Unsettled weather for most of New Zealand today in a cold southwesterly airflow.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Showers, some may be squally and heavy with hail / thunder then easing in the evening. Strong west to southwesterly winds reach gale force at times about western coastlines and in the Hauraki Gulf / Coromandel.
Highs: 10-14

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Rain, possibly heavy with hail, north to northwest winds change to the south this morning. Conditions ease this evening, some snow makes it down to 700 or maybe 600m about the Central Plateau.
Highs: 8-13

Eastern North Island

Showers with heavy falls and possible hail about Wairarapa spreading into Hawkes Bay during the morning then Gisborne late afternoon / evening, southwesterly winds freshen. Snow flurries lower to 500m about Wairarapa, 700m further north.
Highs: 10-14

Wellington

Morning rain then showers. A few snow flurries to 500m. Fresh cold southerlies.
High: 9

Marlborough & Nelson

Morning cloud with any showers clearing then becoming mostly sunny, southwesterly winds.
Highs: 10-12

Canterbury

Morning rain or showers clear then some sun breaks through, showers move back in during the evening with a risk of small hail. Snow flurries to 400m. Cold southwesterly winds.
Highs: 6-8

West Coast

Morning showers clear then mostly sunny, south to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 10-12

Southland & Otago
Showers, possibly heavy with small hail, easing evening. Snow to 400m, perhaps 300m at times. Cold southwesterly winds.
Highs: 6-8
