Wednesday’s national forecast

A front moves off to the east of the North Island this afternoon then a low to the southwest of the South Island pushes a front onto western New Zealand this evening / overnight.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Morning rain or showers, dry / sunny spells increase in the afternoon. Southwesterly winds tend northwest in the evening then some cloud and showers moving in again especially out west.
Highs: 14-16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Patchy rain, clearing in the afternoon and sun breaking through as northeasterly winds tend northwest. Late evening or overnight showers move back into Taranaki with a chance of heavy falls.
Highs: 10-14

Eastern North Island
Some rain, clearing in the afternoon then sun breaks through as northeasterlies tend westerly.
Highs: 13-15

Wellington
Morning rain then afternoon sun breaks through, northerly winds.
High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson
Patchy rain eases then clears in the afternoon at which point conditions become mostly sunny, northeasterlies tend northwest once sun breaks through. Late evening or overnight showers move back into Nelson spreading from the west.
Highs: 13-14

Canterbury
Morning cloud (perhaps a shower or two) then becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon, overnight spots of rain. Northeasterly winds from midday.
Highs: 10-12

West Coast
Any morning cloud clears for most then mainly sunny (morning showers about Buller clear). Meanwhile about Fiordland expect showers, turning to rain in the afternoon then spreading elsewhere in the evening. Northeasterly winds freshen.
Highs: 10-12

Southland & Otago
Sunny areas, high cloud thickens late afternoon / evening. A few spots of rain in the evening for Southland and western Central Otago. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 10-11
