Wednesday’s national forecast

A front weaves its way onto the North Island today bringing areas of rain in the west, especially this afternoon, then again overnight. The South Island is mainly dry apart from some rain about South Westland.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Mostly cloudy about Auckland southwards with a few showers, some rain possible for the Waikato. Northland is dry with sunny spells but rain moves in overnight for most. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-19

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Mostly cloudy with the chance of a shower. Taranaki and the Central North Island have a greater chance of rain from afternoon then easing in the evening. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 11-16

Eastern North Island

Sunny areas and some high cloud, light winds tend easterly in the afternoon about Hawkes Bay. A few spots of rain later in the evening.
Highs: 18-20

Wellington

Chance of an early shower then sunny spells develop. Northwesterly winds.
High: 14

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny with light northerly winds.
Highs: 16-20

Canterbury

Mostly sunny after any early cloud clears, some high cloud possible during the day. Light winds tend east to northeast during the afternoon.
High: 16

West Coast

Mostly sunny, some cloud about South Westland from midday with rain moving in during the afternoon. Light westerly winds.
Highs: 13-16

Southland & Otago

Mostly sunny, although some cloud at times about Southland. Westerly winds, breezy about Southland.
Highs: 12-14
