An anticyclone keeps the North Island mainly settled today, meanwhile a northwesterly airflow picks up over the South Island where it’s sunny in the east and cloud builds out west.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Mainly sunny, a few clouds about Northland and Auckland however with the chance of a light shower mainly in the west. Light winds gradually tend northwest.
Highs: 13-16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Mostly sunny with light northwesterlies, cloud builds overnight.
Highs: 11-14

Eastern North Island

Sunny with light winds for most, northwesterlies pick up in the afternoon about the Wairarapa.
Highs: 13-14

Wellington

Sunny areas and increasing cloud, building northwesterly winds.
Highs: 13-14

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny with light winds in the morning tending north to northwest after midday, late high cloud.
Highs: 12-14

Canterbury

Sunny with light northerlies, picking up later. Winds more from the northwest inland. High cloud gradually moves in from afternoon.
High: 12

West Coast

Cloudy for South Westland, becoming cloudy further north by evening. The odd drizzle patch develops for Fiordland in the afternoon then turns to rain overnight with heavy falls. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 11-12

Southland & Otago

Sunny areas and thickening high cloud, a few spots of rain later in the evening. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 9-11
