Weather Video: More heat, sun and dry but a cool change on Friday/Saturday for many

We take a look at the hot weather across large parts of the country and we also go to the tropics where there is a big jump in energy north of New Zealand for the first half of February. But in the days ahead we have more hot weather, several degrees above normal and consistently so for a number of days in a row.

Not everyone is impacted by the heatwave (like coastal western areas of both islands), however warm nights are on the way there while hot days are kicking in again inland today and for the next few days with highs in the low even mid 30s.

By Friday a cold front reaches the South Island and moves into the North Island on Saturday and falls apart – but many areas will get a temperature drop, some by a few degrees, others by over 10 degrees on where they are this week…and this cool change will reset a lot of places back to normal, not colder than normal.

Howdy. Around midday today the temp gauge on my deck up high in East Auck was at 39.5. I’ve had 42 before but this is getting pretty close, and gauge sits on a potplant in partial shade. At 3.30pm it’s now down to 28 with a breeze. Wish our temps given were more accurate and not measured in the shade or high wind areas. Metservice and WW both said 26 in Auck as we read 39.5!!! Last week in Methven it was 32 as I chilled in a pool, news stated high was 24! What a beautiful Summer, long may it last!
