Weather headlines (x3) for Wednesday: Heavy rain West Coast, Nice in the east, Southerlies on Thursday

Here’s what is making the weather headlines today.

HEAVY RAIN WEST COAST TODAY

Heavy rain is due to fall on the West Coast today, between 80mm to potentially as high as 140mm is possible from this morning.

ANOTHER NICE DAY IN THE EAST

A northerly airflow over the country means eastern regions should be warm again today, highs in the late teens or early twenties. There will be some high cloud though so conditions are not totally sunny.

SOUTHERLIES FORECAST TO MOVE NORTHWARDS ON THURSDAY

Southerlies start out about the far south on Thursday morning, reaching Canterbury in the afternoon, Marlborough in the evening then the lower North Island overnight.

As southerlies move northwards expect rain to push northwards in the east also, conditions ease later in the day about the far south.

Some snow eventually lowering to 400m about the far south later in the day before clearing at night, 500m overnight for Canterbury.
