Weather conditions across the country

It’s a very grey, gloomy, morning across the upper North Island with fog, mist, low cloud and now thicker, higher, cloud moving in.

Light but widespread rain is moving in across Northland and has just moved into the Bay of Islands, with Whangarei expected to see it soon.

Most fog has lifted over Auckland but hazy conditions remain with very low cloud.  Patchy showers or light rain is expected to develop this afternoon and temperatures should rise into the mid to late teens.

Foggy conditions remain in Hamilton for the third morning in a row.  Yesterday parts of Waikato saw fog for almost the entire day.

The sunny weather starts around the central North Island with stunning weather stretching from higher elevations around Rotorua and Taupo over to New Plymouth and southwards.  Taupo itself is currently foggy but conditions should clear to sunny skies before high clouds moves in this afternoon.  It’s cold in Taupo with just 5 degrees as of 9:40am.

Napier has sunny skies with some high cloud while further south Wellington has fairly cloudy skies and 13 degrees.

Nelson and the upper South Island have a stunning morning with mostly blue skies and no wind.

Christchurch has cloudy periods and 9 degrees with a very light sou’wester while Dunedin has just 3 degrees this hour.

Invercargil has 4 degrees.

11.40am its pretty sunny in Palmy (for once!) abnormal weather though, its been very muggy at nights and lately we have been warmer than Aucks, is it coz of those sub tropical lows?

we’ve only had one bad night of fog where you couldnt see less than a m clear – very freaky walking in it too haha.

but the sun is out, its a lil chilly and a small breeze 🙂

Warmer because the wind either is easterly or northerly so its a slight foehn wind which means the damper air passes and dries and descends down the central plateau and warms a little.

Light winds but very dark clouds rolling in….took an amazing pic on my cellphone this morning of the sunrise….just wish I knew how to upload it to the computer….(long story). Hopefully this rain along with the next low on mon/tues will ring the final end of the drought up here in Northland
