VIDEO – Cold snap delayed

The cold snap is still coming – but latest computer models show a high east of NZ is likely to slow everything down – with rain clouds moving in this weekend, then a colder sou’west change for all of NZ is expected by mid to late next week. Reliable models and forecasts have picked mild, moist north to northeast flow since beginning of week.

I seem to remember wasn’t there a similar situation in June 2006 when there was the warm moist easterlies and a very cold southerly hit Canterbury and there was a freak snowstorm that wasn’t predicted? Was the setup similar to this or different?

There are some similarties however at this stage the temperatures arent appearing quite so icy.
