Tuesday’s national forecast – Showers at either end

Dry for most of New Zealand today thanks to a a narrow ridge of high pressure, a few showers about the northeastern corner of the North Island and at the other end of the country in the southwest (about Fiordland).

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mostly sunny morning apart from Bay Of Plenty and Coromandel where there is showers, isolated showers spreading elsewhere during the afternoon. Light southeasterlies then afternoon sea breezes.
Highs: 21-23

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly sunny, some afternoon cloud inland about the ranges. A few afternoon isolated showers possible about the Central Plateau. Light winds.
Highs: 21-24

Eastern North Island

South of about Napier skies are mostly sunny, some afternoon cloud about the ranges may lead to an isolated shower or two. North of Napier conditions are cloudier with a few showers, clearing evening. Winds from the northeast.
Highs: 16-25

Wellington

Sunny, some cloud at night. Light northerly winds.
Highs: 21-26

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny, some high cloud later in the day. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 21-26

Canterbury

Mostly sunny with some developing high cloud, northeasterly winds.
Highs: 19-26

West Coast

Sun and increasing cloud, Fiordland starts to see a few showers develop in the afternoon. Mostly sunny all day for Buller with a touch of high cloud developing. Winds from the north or northeast, perhaps more westerly north of Greymouth.
Highs: 18-25

Southland & Otago
Some morning sun then cloud increases, a few spits of rain in the afternoon for a time. Coastal Otago doesn’t see any spits till later in the day or overnight. Northeasterlies ease.
Highs: 22-26
