Tuesday’s national forecast

Mainly anticyclonic weather for most of the country again today. The tropical depression to the north of New Zealand moves closer to the upper North Island however gradually bringing some increasing cloud and drizzle, some rain moves into Northland.

Northland
Cloudy with easterly breezes, becoming brisk in the afternoon. The odd brief spit at times, rain develops north of about Kawakawa in the morning then further south later in the evening.

Auckland

Becoming cloudy in the morning with breezy easterly winds developing, the odd brief spit at times from midday but expect plenty of long dry spells too. Overnight expect patchy rain or drizzle.
Highs: 22-23

Central North Island, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Skies becoming mostly cloudy in the morning for the Bay Of Plenty, cloud moving into the Waikato and Central North Island in the evening. The odd drizzle patch about Bay Of Plenty from evening then overnight a few drizzle patches moves into most areas but expect plenty of dry spells still. East to northeast breezes.

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with afternoon easterly breezes, some high cloud develops after midday about Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay.
Highs: 22-23

Western North Island

Mostly sunny with light winds and sea breezes, some high cloud develops in the morning. Evening low cloud north of about Wanganui and the odd light shower possible about Taranaki overnight.

Wellington

Sunny with northerly breezes, some high cloud from midday.
High: 20

Nelson

Sunny with some high cloud developing around midday, light winds and afternoon northerly breezes.
High: 22

Marlborough

Sunny with afternoon northerly breezes, some high cloud moves in after midday.
Highs: 25-26

Canterbury

Mostly sunny with light winds after morning low cloud or fog clears. Afternoon easterly breezes near the coast.
Highs: 23-25

West Coast

Mostly sunny with light winds, there may be some cloud about Fiordland. In the afternoon high cloud moves into Buller from the north.
High: 19-22

Coastal Otago

Mostly sunny with light winds tending easterly in the afternoon, there may be some cloud morning and night.
Highs: 18-20

Central Otago

Sunny with light winds tending west to southwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 24-27

Southland

Morning cloud with light winds then afternoon westerly breezes brings sunny spells.
High: 20
