A tightly packed low moves over the North Island today as an easterly quarter airflow lies over the South Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A deep low slowly moves southwards over the upper North Island during today. Winds around this low are gusty coming in from the westerly quarter. Expect mostly cloudy skies with areas of rain (possibly heavy) or showers.
Highs: 15-16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Occasional rain or showers. Breezy southeasterly winds, strong about the south Taranaki coastline. Winds tend northeast later in the day.
Highs: 12-16

Eastern North Island
Heavy rain with brisk to strong southeasterly winds.
Highs: 14-16

Wellington
Showers or some rain at times. Brisk southeasterly winds, strong through Cook Strait with gales likely.
High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson
Drizzle turns to rain in the morning, possibly heavy at times about Marlborough from late afternoon or evening. Brisk southeasterly winds, strong about the outer Sounds with gales likely.
Highs: 11-13

Canterbury
Drizzle then some rain from afternoon, rain may become heavy later in the day or overnight for North Canterbury. Southeasterly winds.
Highs: 8-11

West Coast
Thick high cloud, there may be a brief shower or two pass over from the east for North Westland. Breezy southeasterly winds.
Highs: 12-15

Southland & Otago
Plenty of high cloud for most, cloud about coastal Otago is thicker and lower. There may be a light shower or drizzle patch about coastal Northern Otago. East to northeast winds.
Highs: 7-10
