Tuesday’s national forecast

A southwesterly airflow eases over New Zealand today, generally settled, although there’s a fair amount of cloud about with areas of fog morning and night for some North Island regions.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny spells with light winds. Areas of fog morning and night, especially for inland areas. The Waikato may even be fairly cloudy for much of the day with only brief afternoon sun.
Highs: 14-18

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Mostly cloudy with the odd light shower, clearing in the evening. The Central North Island is mainly dry with some sun at times, a chance of fog morning and night however. Westerly winds.
Highs: 13-16

Eastern North Island

Sunny areas and some high cloud, westerlies change southwest in the afternoon bringing some lower level cloud and the chance of a brief shower, otherwise mainly dry. Gisborne may not see a shower till evening, if anything at all.
High: 18

Wellington

Some early sun then southerlies pick up a little this morning bringing increasing cloud. Cloud breaks up later in the day.
High: 14

Marlborough & Nelson

Morning high cloud, lower level cloud moves in during the afternoon about Marlborough with westerlies changing southerly. Remaining dry with cloud breaking up overnight. Nelson, on the other hand, sees afternoon sunny areas.
Highs: 14-16

Canterbury

Southerly winds develop in the morning bringing mostly cloudy skies, with a chance of a light shower or two, otherwise mainly dry. Cloud breaking up late afternoon or evening.
High: 10

West Coast

A few morning showers clear then sunny areas increase. Light west to southwest winds.
Highs: 13-14

Southland & Otago

Cloudy areas about Southland with the odd coastal shower, mainly morning. Mostly sunny elsewhere, any early showers clear coastal Otago. Westerly winds.
Highs: 9-11
