A front moves over the upper South Island / lower North Island this morning then onto the upper North Island this afternoon / evening. Rain or showers in many western regions, thunderstorms for the South Island’s West Coast then later in the evening or overnight for some western parts of the North Island. Warm out east.

Northland
Sunny areas and increasing cloud from afternoon, building northwesterly winds. A period of showers in the evening.

Auckland

Sunny spells and increasing cloud, building northwesterly winds. A period
of showers late afternoon / evening.
High: 18-19

Bay Of Plenty

Periods of cloud with northwesterlies building from afternoon, some evening
rain.
High: 20

Waikato & Central North Island

Sunny spells and increasing cloud from morning, northwesterly winds
freshen. Late afternoon / evening some rain moves in. Winds tend westerly
overnight with showers more likely, showers could be heavy with thunderstorms
and hail however, more so in the west.
Highs: 16-20

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with high cloud increasing in the afternoon, northwesterly
winds freshen in the morning about the Wairarapa and further north after midday.
Brief spells of evening rain possible.
Highs: 23-24

Taranaki

Mostly cloudy with freshening northwesterlies, occasional showers from late
morning then later in the evening / overnight showers become heavy with possible
thunderstorms and hail.
Highs: 17-18

Western North Island

Periods of cloud, odd light shower from afternoon. Late / overnight showers
may be heavy with thunderstorms and hail.
High: 18

Wellington

A period of morning showers then again in the evening, periods of cloud and
sunny areas otherwise. Evening showers may be heavy. Strong
northwesterlies.
High: 17

Nelson

Some early morning rain clears then expect sunny areas and breezy west to
northwest winds. A few further showers may move in during the evening.
Highs: 18-19

Marlborough

Brief early rain clears then expect sunny areas and some high cloud, gusty
northwesterly winds.
High: 21

Canterbury

Mostly sunny, breezy northwesterly winds. Chance of an evening shower
especially Banks Peninsula southwards along the coast one or two of which could
be heavy with thunderstorms and hail.

West Coast

Spells of rain, heavy at times with thunderstorms and hail then easing in
the morning about South Westland and afternoon further north as breezy
northwesterlies tend westerly.
Highs: 14-15

Coastal Otago

Morning sunny areas, afternoon showers possibly heavy with thunderstorms
and hail. Southwesterly winds freshen.
Highs: 15-16

Central Otago

Showers, some heavy with thunderstorms and hail then clearing by evening.
Westerlies change southwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 11-12

Southland

Showers, some heavy with thunderstorms and hail then easing late afternoon.
Brisk westerly winds ease evening.
High: 12
