Tuesday’s national forecast

A front clears the North Island this afternoon leaving occasional showers about, the east coast has a good day after any early spits clear. Meanwhile for the South Island the West Coast is wet with areas of rain, a southwest change moves north along the east coast this afternoon bringing showers.

Northland
Cloudy with some rain developing late morning, northwesterlies freshen. Clearing in the afternoon with a westerly change.
High: 17

Auckland

Rain develops this morning then easing to the odd shower around midday as
breezy northwesterlies change westerly. The odd sunny spells breaks through from
afternoon.
High: 16

Bay Of Plenty

Rain develops this morning with northwesterlies, easing to showers around
midday with a westerly change. Sunny spells develop too with showers clearing by
evening.
High: 17

Central North Island & Waikato

Rain, easing to the odd shower by late morning as northwesterlies change
breezy westerly. A few sunny areas breaking through.
Highs: 14-15

Eastern North Island

Any early cloud and spits of rain clear then mostly sunny, breezy
northwesterlies.
Highs: 17-18

Taranaki

Early rain eases to showers, brisk west to northwest winds.
High: 14

Western North Island

Cloudy spells and occasional showers, breezy northwesterlies becoming a
little brisk at times this afternoon.
High: 14

Wellington

Sunny spells with brisk gusty northwesterlies, there may be a brief evening
shower.
High: 14

Nelson

Sunny spells with breezy northwesterly winds, a few showers may pass
through in the afternoon.
High: 14

Marlborough

Mostly sunny with breezy northwesterlies.
Highs: 15-16

Canterbury

Mostly sunny with northwesterly winds, some high cloud from midday. Mid to
late afternoon winds change southwest with a few showers moving through, chance
of an isolated heavy fall right on the coast. Parts of North Canterbury
remaining quite dry with the southwest change not making much inroads north of
Banks Peninsula.

West Coast

Periods of rain, possibly heavy with thunderstorms especially in the
afternoon. Breezy west to northwest winds.
High: 12

Coastal Otago

Morning sunny areas, light winds. A few showers develop in the afternoon as
winds change southwest then clearing during the evening.
Highs: 11-12

Central Otago

Some morning rain, more so in the west clearing then a few sunny spells
breaking though with light winds. In the afternoon further showers move in as
winds tend southwest then easing in the evening.
Highs: 10-11

Southland

Periods of cloud and a few sunny spells, light winds in the morning tending
southerly around midday with a few showers moving in.
Highs: 10-11
