Much needed rain moves away from the North Island overnight as the low pressure system that has been affecting us this week weakens. A northerly airflow lies over the South Island with cloudy areas for many, a few heavy isolated showers about some eastern districts clear later this evening.

Auckland & Northland

Northerlies about Northland with clear spells, chance of the odd shower.
Isolated showers for Auckland with a heavy fall or two clearing later this
evening.

Tonight’s Low: 16-17

Central North Island, Waikato
& Bay Of Plenty

Rain with heavy falls at times easing later this evening to the odd shower.
Humid north to northeasterly breezes.

Tonight’s Low: 16-18

Eastern North Island

Cloudy with areas of rain about Gisborne and Hawkes Bay clearing overnight,
brisk north to northeasterly breezes.

Tonight’s Low: 16-17

Western North Island

Showers, some heavy with possible thunderstorms then easing overnight to
the odd shower and long dry spells. Northeasterlies tend northerly later.

Tonight’s Lows: 15-16

Wellington

Cloudy, the odd shower possible this evening then clearing overnight.
Northerly breezes.

Tonight’s Low: 16

Nelson

Cloudy with north to northeasterly breezes, the odd drizzle patch with some
rain this evening for a time. Isolated showers inland, some heavy with
thunderstorms clearing later.

Marlborough

Mostly cloudy with northerly breezes, isolated showers (some may be heavy)
clear later this evening or overnight.

Tonight’s Low: 15

Canterbury

East to northeast breezes with areas of low cloud about coastal parts,
clears spells in sheltered inland areas. Isolated showers, some heavy with
thunderstorms about the Amuri area and inland South Canterbury clearing later
this evening.

Tonight’s Lows: 13-14

West Coast

Mostly cloudy skies with northeastely breezes, the odd shower. Showers
about Buller this evening with possible thunderstorms then clearing later.

Tonight’s Lows: 14-16

Coastal Otago

Mostly sunny with some low cloud rolling back in tonight, easterly breezes
ease later. Isolated showers with possible thunderstorms inland clearing
later.

Tonight’s Lows: 13

Central Otago

Mainly clear skies, isolated evening showers in the east with possible
thunderstorms clearing later. Light winds.

Tonight’s Low: 12-13

Southland

Mainly clear skies, southerlies ease overnight. Inland isolated showers
this evening with thunderstorms possible then clearing later this evening.
