Thursday’s national forecast

Mostly sunny across the North Island today with a few areas of cloud. Cloudy areas more frequent from Taranaki through to Kapiti along the coast with a few morning showers clearing, expect west to southwesterly breezes. Sunny on the east coast from Gisborne through to Wairarapa with light winds tending southwesterly for a time.

Mostly sunny from Mid Canterbury through to Nelson today in the South Island, light winds tending southerly in Mid and North Canterbury. In South Canterbury expect some morning cloud however sunny areas will increase, southerlies ease later. Cloudy with a few showers to start in Southland and Otago with south to southwesterly breezes, sunny breaks develop after midday.

Cloudy areas about South Westland with westerly breezes and morning showers clearing, odd drizzle patches possible in southern areas of Fiordland through the day. Sunny areas and some cloud in North Westland and Buller with light westerlies, a few morning showers clear there also.

High’s of 17 to 18 from the Waikato and Bay Of Plenty northwards today, also along the east coast. Gisborne and parts of Northland may reach the low 20’s however. Most other areas in the mid teens. 16 to 17 degrees today for Canterbury though to Nelson, mid teens on the West Coast. 13 to 14 in Southland and Otago.

YES YES YES! Met has Kapiti for NW in their forecast. You guys are right though, as an SW crept into Paekakariki “again” yesterday, with a cold W wind. Maybe still NW north of here hence Met’s forecast.
