Thursday’s national forecast

High pressure covers most of New Zealand today, however a weakening front does move off the top of the South Island early this morning then onto the lower North Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Mostly cloudy with northerly winds, chance of a shower or two about the Waikato, otherwise mainly dry.
Highs: 21-23

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloudy with areas of rain, easing overnight. North to northwesterly winds, breezy about Taranaki.
Highs: 18-20

Eastern North Island

Cloudy, areas of rain about the Wairarapa ease from afternoon. Hawkes Bay sees scattered rain at times from late morning. Rain clears for most overnight. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 22-23

Wellington

Cloudy with spells of rain, gusty northwesterly winds change southerly late afternoon.
High: 18

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly cloudy with a few spots of rain (heavy early on about Nelson), perhaps a little more persistent for a time late afternoon / evening in Marlborough, as breezy northwesterlies tend southerly. Rain clears by midnight.
Highs: 19-20

Canterbury

A few early showers clear then cloud breaks to a mostly sunny afternoon, southerlies tend east to northeast in the afternoon.
High: 17

West Coast

Early rain clears then becoming mostly sunny, light southwesterly winds.
Highs: 19

Southland & Otago

Any early showers clear then mostly sunny with west to northwesterly winds. Afternoon northeasterlies about coastal Otago.
Highs: 15-16
