Thursday night’s national forecast

A light west to northwesterly airflow lies over the country tonight, skies are mainly clear although a few isolated showers about the place will clear this evening. A new front in the Tasman Sea starts to rotate onto the West Coast of the South Island overnight however and this brings heavy showers in areas, a few of which could even be thundery.

Auckland & Northland
Clear spells with light westerlies, isolated showers clear this evening.
Lows tonight: 7-8

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Clear with some cloud, isolated showers clear this evening. Light winds tend westerly.
Lows tonight: 4-8

Eastern North Island
Areas of cloud breaking up a little overnight, light winds. Showers about Gisborne clear this evening.
Low tonight: 4-5

Western North Island
Sunny spells for north Taranaki, areas of cloud elsewhere further south with isolated showers clearing this evening. North to northwest winds.
Lows tonight: 7-9

Wellington
Areas of cloud with northerlies.
Low tonight: 10

Nelson
North to northwest breezes with areas of cloud, chance of a shower around dawn.
Low tonight: 6

Marlborough
Clear spells with northwesterly breezes easing this evening.
Lows tonight: 5-6

Canterbury
Some high cloud with light winds tending northeast near the coast.
Lows tonight: 4-5

West Coast
Showers, some heavy and possibly thundery tonight. Northerlies.
Lows tonight: 7-8

Coastal Otago
Clear spells with light winds, low chance of an isolated shower this evening.
Low tonight: 6

Central Otago
High cloud with light winds.
Lows tonight: 2-3

Southland
Areas of cloud with light winds, chance of an isolated shower this evening any of which clear overnight.
Low tonight: 3
