Thursday night’s national forecast

New Zealand is mainly under a ridge of high pressure tonight extending from an anticyclone to the northeast of the country, so expect mainly settled conditions. Not everywhere will be clear with fog patches possible for some inland North Island areas. High cloud will be plentiful for the South Island’s east coast.

Northland
The odd isolated shower clears this evening, clear spells and some cloud overnight with northeasterlies.
Lows tonight: 10-11

Central North Island, Waikato, Bay Of Plenty & Auckland
Mainly clear skies, some cloud about mainly for the Central North Island. Expect light winds, fog patches develop for sheltered areas, especially the Waikato.
Lows tonight: 5-10

Eastern North Island
Mainly clear skies, some high cloud for Wairarapa. Northwesterlies ease this evening.
Lows tonight: 6-8

Western North Island
A mix of clear and cloudy spells, the odd shower retreating to northern Taranaki and Kapiti this evening.
Lows tonight: 8-9

Wellington
The odd shower with brisk northerlies, showers clear overnight with northerlies easing a little.
Lows tonight: 11-12

Nelson
The odd shower with light winds.
Lows tonight: 8-9

Marlborough
The odd shower about the Sounds becoming a little more widespread late evening for a time, then clearing overnight. Northwesterlies.
Lows tonight: 7-8

Canterbury
Clear with some high cloud, light winds. General areas of cloud develop towards dawn.
Lows tonight: 3-4

West Coast
Cloudy spells with the odd shower, light winds tend northeast.
Lows tonight: 6-7

Otago
Mainly clear but expect some high cloud, light winds.
Lows tonight: 0-4

Southland
Cloudy areas break away tonight however some high cloud then develops, light northwesterlies.
Lows tonight: 1-2
