The Big Picture: Northwesterlies coming on Tuesday

A northwesterly airflow is moving in over the country on Tuesday, along with a front coming into the South Island in the afternoon.

The main weather features of note are heavy rain on the West Coast of the South Island (no surprises), gustly northerlies through Cook Strait (no surprises) and northwesterlies in mid and north Canterbury.

The east of the North Island is looking clearer, while high cloud moves in later in the evening.
