Sunday’s national forecast

Upper North Island

Northwesterly breezes with cloudy spells, the odd
brief shower at times too. Eastern parts of Northland and western Bay Of Plenty may remain mostly dry during the day.

Lower North Island

Northwesterlies with mostly cloudy skies and the odd shower now and then, dry periods too. Wellington sees strong northerly winds. Along the east coast expect mostly sunny weather with northwesterlies and warm
temperatures.

Upper South Island

Rain on the West Coast eases to
showers early this afternoon as northerlies change southwest. Some rain about
Nelson with northerlies, easing to showers late afternoon then clearing in the
evening. Mostly sunny about Marlborough with breezy northwesterlies and warm
temperatures, a southwest change later in the evening brings some cloud and the
risk of a shower especially near the coast. Mostly sunny to start this morning
in Canterbury, a southerly change works it’s way into South Canterbury this
morning and then North Canterbury in the afternoon. Southerlies bring showers,
some heavy with a risk of thunderstorms and hail.

Lower South
Island

Early rain eases to showers on the West Coast this morning south
of Haast with southwesterly breezes developing. Cloudy periods and the odd
shower about Southland and Otago with south to southwesterly winds.
