Sunday’s national forecast

Westerly winds blow today across the country although they will be lighter in the north than they were yesterday but they are likely to strengthen a little more for areas further down NZ.

Heavy rain moves into the lower West Coast today and slowly heads northwards – weakening as it does so. The upper half of the West Coast and the entire western North Island look dry or mainly dry today though. All of eastern NZ looks dry although it’s possible a few late showers may affect Southland and the eastern side of Otago. Rain may also spill over into western Otago.

It will be mild and warmer than average in most places inland and to the east today although some in the west may be a little cooler with cloudier weather at times.

Highs: 15 to 23
