Sunday’s national forecast

High pressure holds on to most of the North Island while light winds over the South Island may hold in place a narrow area of rain.

Some morning fog and mist patches then becoming quite sunny in some regions, cloudier for others. Winds around Cook Strait ease while easterlies develop in the upper part of the island. Dry for most but can’t rule out a few light showers around Northland.
Highs: 12 to 16

Mostly light winds with cooler air in the southern half of the island, then a narrow band of rain or showers – mostly on the West Coast but may affect Canterbury for a time with showers and cooler southerlies later. Milder and drier in  Nelson, Westport, Blenheim.
Highs: 6 to 17
