Summer heat challenging the records

The heat over the past week or two will certainly be challenging many November records across parts of the country – and the heat just keeps on going.

WeatherWatch.co.nz predicts no significant change in the weather pattern for the next 10 days.  Beyond that we feel the data is too inaccurate but even looking at 14 days the prediction is for more of the same.

30 degrees was again hit today, this time in Taumarunui and Murchison.

Both areas are inland allowing the afternoon heat to build up in the valleys.

Hamilton wasn’t far behind either.  Throughout all of last December the hottest it got in Hamilton was 25.8 degrees – today, on day one, it reached 28.

Tokoroa also reached 28 degrees and Taupo 27.

It wasn’t hot everywhere though – for two days in a row Dunedin only made it 14 degrees.  Timaru made it to 15.

Wellington climbed to 17 due to a cool southerly.
