Timaru has now climbed to 34 degrees this afternoon as a hot nor’ wester takes a firm hold. Further inland, it’s even hotter as New Years day turns out to be a scorcher.
Ashburton is currently 30 degrees and other inland areas of Canterbury and Otago are also rising above the 30 degree mark.
