Saturday’s national forecast – FROSTY

High pressure sits of the country today bringing frosty, settled and mostly sunny conditions for most. A few showers linger in the far south and clear for the east coast of the North Island. We also have freshening easterlies for Auckland and Northland bringing in a few showers.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of PlentyPartly cloudy, rain for northern parts of Northland, winds from the southeast. A few showers may push in from the east for Coromandel and Auckland in the afternoon as easterlies start to build, becoming strong later in the day / overnight for coastal areas especially Northland with gales possible there.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny, a frosty start inland. Gentle southerly quarter winds.
Highs: 12 – 17


Eastern North Island
A mix of sun and cloud, coastal showers clear Wairarapa in the morning then further north in the afternoon. Cloud breaks away in the evening as south to southwesterly winds die away.
Highs: 14 – 16


Wellington
Any early cloud clears then sunny, southerly breezes.
Highs: 12 – 14


Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny after a frosty start, light winds tend easterly in the afternoon for Marlborough, northerly for Nelson.
Highs: 13 – 16


Canterbury

Sunny after a frosty start, early cloud clears Banks Peninsula. Light winds.
Highs: 13 – 16


West Coast
Sunny with light winds, frosty to start inland.
Highs: 13 – 16


Southland & Otago
Cloudy spells for Southland with the odd shower, clearing evening. Central Otago is mostly sunny after a frosty start, a few clouds after midday. Coastal Otago has partly cloudy skies, cloud breaks away in the evening. Westerlies tend southwest in the afternoon.
