A large anticyclone in the Tasman Sea directs a southwesterly airflow over New Zealand today, it does gradually ease especially later on.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny with south to southwesterly winds, the Bay Of Plenty may see some cloud at times.
Highs: 13-14

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower possible through till evening about the Manawatu and Central North Island, skies clearing up overnight. Taranaki and areas to the west are mostly sunny after some morning cloud breaks away. Southerly winds.
Highs: 9-13

Eastern North Island
Mostly cloudy with occasional showers, fresh cold southwesterly winds.
Highs: 11-12

Wellington
Occasional showers, gusty southerly winds ease overnight.
High: 11

Marlborough & Nelson
Any morning cloud breaks Marlborough then mostly sunny, southwesterly winds. Nelson has a sunny day with light southwest winds tending northerly in the afternoon.
Highs: 10-13

Canterbury
Mostly cloudy, showers out on Banks Peninsula for much of the day. South Canterbury and perhaps inland Mid Canterbury is the exception with a mostly sunny day in store after a frosty start. Cloud clearing other parts of Canterbury overnight with showers clearing Banks Peninsula also. Cold southwesterly winds die out overnight.

West Coast
Sunny with light southeasterly winds.
Highs: 11-13

Southland & Otago
Cloudy areas about Southland and coastal Otago with the risk of a shower or two at times through till evening then drying out. Central Otago sees mostly sunny conditions after some morning cloud breaks away. West to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 9-11
