Saturday’s national forecast

A low moves onto the upper North Island from the north today while a ridge starts to make some headway further south.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Morning rain, possibly heavy in the east especially about the Coromandel and Bay Of Plenty. Rain easing to showers in the evening. Southeasterly winds gradually develop. Northland however sees morning rain then easing to showers, light winds picking up from the southwest afternoon onwards.
Highs: 14-16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy, the odd shower at times. Some rain for northern Taranaki late afternoon / evening then clearing overnight. Southeasterly winds.
Highs: 10-14

Eastern North Island
Drizzle turning to rain by midday. Becoming heavy in the afternoon about Gisborne then by evening for Hawkes Bay. The Wairarapa just sees the odd shower. South to southeasterly winds freshen.
Highs: 11-14

Wellington
Mostly cloudy, chance of a shower or two. Fresh southerlies.

High: 10

Marlborough & Nelson
A mix of sun and cloud about Marlborough, Nelson is mainly sunny. Easterly winds. Light northerlies in the afternoon for Nelson.
Highs: 13-14

Canterbury
Cloudy with a shower or two, long dry periods also. South to southwesterly winds, breezy about the coast.
Highs: 7-9

West Coast
Any morning cloud clears then mostly sunny with light winds.
Highs: 14-15

Southland & Otago
Mostly cloudy, drizzle patches possible about Southland and coastal Otago. Southeasterly winds.
Highs: 7-9
