The low in the Tasman Sea is becoming better organised and MetService has issued further rain warnings.
WeatherWatch.co.nz reports a rare heavy rain warning has been issued for Auckland city, south of about Takapuna.
“Rain is forecast to be heavy at times today. In the 12 hours between 9am and 9pm Friday, expect 60 to 80mm of rain with peak intensities of 15mm/hr” says MetService.
Heavy rain warnings are also in place for Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Plenty, Rotorua, Gisborne, Hawkes Bay, Wairarapa and Marlborough.
The low is expected to move east of the North Island this weekend and deepen further driving in cold south to south east winds for Wellington, possibly gale force.
