Monday’s national forecast – Cold front moves northwards

A cold front pushes northwards over the South Island today reaching the lower North Island later this afternoon or evening.

North Island

Mostly sunny, some high cloud. Some mid level cloud in the west, especially in the southwest (Taranaki through to Wellington), Kapiti may see a shower or two. Later this afternoon and into this evening southerlies move into Wellington then up the east coast bringing thickening cloud and eventually a few showers.

South Island

Southerlies this morning about the lower South Island with rain, heavy falls for Fiordland. Rain reaches Greymouth northwards for the West Coast overnight. Southerlies move into Canterbury around midday bringing thickening cloud and showers this afternoon, a few showers may eventually reach Marlborough this evening. Mostly sunny for the upper South Island otherwise with some high cloud, mid level cloud thickens later on. Cloud starts to break about Southland this afternoon then into Otago this evening.
