A slack pressure gradient lies over New Zealand today, this can create light shifty winds and areas of convergence which may lead to a downpour or two.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny, may be an isolated shower late afternoon / evening mainly about Northland and eastern Bay Of Plenty / East Cape. Showers could become heavy then clearing later on. Northern parts of Northland sees a stream of heavy showers during the day. Otherwise mainly dry for everyone else. Light winds and afternoon sea breezes.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly sunny with a touch of high cloud possible, light winds then afternoon sea breezes. Isolated showers with the chance of a heavy fall about inland hills and ranges of the Manawatu late afternoon / evening.
Highs: 24-28

Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny, Gisborne sees morning cloud with a shower or two then afternoon sunny spells. Late afternoon / evening isolated showers develop about some inland hills and ranges. Showers could even become heavy then clearing later on. Light winds then afternoon easterlies.
Highs: 23-26

Wellington
Mostly sunny, north to northwesterly winds may tend southerly in the afternoon. Isolated showers may develop late afternoon / evening about inland hills and ranges to the northwest.
High: 24

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny, cloud builds in the afternoon. Isolated showers develop in the afternoon about inland hills and ranges, some may become heavy with the risk of a thunderstorm then clearing later on. Light winds.
Highs: 23-26

Canterbury
Morning rain about Mid and South Canterbury eases to the odd shower then clearing in the afternoon, a shower or two may cling to inland areas for the rest of the day. North of Banks Peninsula expect some sun, cloud thickens in the afternoon especially about inland hills and ranges where isolated showers may develop. South to southwest breezes.

West Coast
A few morning showers then afternoon sunny spells, a shower or two may cling to inland hills and ranges during the afternoon. Light winds.
Highs: 20-25

Southland & Otago
Mostly cloudy with a shower or two, light south to southwesterly winds. For inland areas there is the risk of a shower, especially late afternoon / evening where there could even be an isolated heavy fall.
Highs: 17-22
