A ridge hangs over most of New Zealand today extending out from an anticyclone east of New Zealand in the Pacific.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny areas with east to northeast winds. Bay Of Plenty (especially in the west) and Coromandel sees cloudier skies this morning with the chance of a few showers then some sun this afternoon. Northland sees the chance of a shower lingering till mid afternoon then brightening up a little.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Sunny with afternoon west to northwest breezes. Cloudy areas about Taranaki however with northerly winds and the odd shower about. The Central North Island also sees morning cloud with the chance of a shower then areas of sun this afternoon.
Highs: 24-28

Eastern North Island

Morning cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather, east to northeasterly breezes.
Highs: 22-24

Wellington

Mostly sunny with a touch of high cloud from this afternoon, northwesterly winds.
High: 23

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny with north to northeasterly winds this afternoon.
Highs: 23-29

Canterbury

Sunny with light winds this morning, some early fog about inland areas breaks away. Afternoon east to northeast winds.
Highs: 22-26

West Coast

A mainly sunny day with light winds tending west to northwest this afternoon. Cloud thickens about Fiordland this afternoon with the light shower moving in. Warmest temperatures about inland Buller.
Highs: 21-27

Southland & Otago

Mostly sunny then a few clouds from afternoon, chance of an evening shower or two about Southland and Central Otago. Winds mainly light.
Highs: 21-26
